چکیده

SEE PAGE 1036 I t may be surprising to realize that the initial work in intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) imaging appeared in the early 1960s, preceding the development of interventional catheterization procedures (1). The increasingly sophisticated catheter-based structural interventions that have emerged over the past decade, stimulated the growth of ICE to become an established imaging modality that holds distinct advantages for use in practice such as transseptal access (2), atrial and ventricular septal defects closure (3), and radiofrequency ablation for cardiac arrhythmias (4). Furthermore, in our center, we use it exclusively to guide all congenital and structural interventional procedures. As opposed to transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE), ICE offers comparable, if not superior, imaging without the need for general anesthesia. The use of ICE also allows the interventionalist to simultaneously perform the procedure as well as the imaging part without the need of additional echocardiographic personnel. The introduction of percutaneous left atrial appendage (LAA) closure into clinical practice has stirred considerable interest to reduce the risk of thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation, with several clinical trials demonstrating high procedural success rates and noninferiority to warfarin for preventing embolic stroke (5). The procedure is fairly intricate with echocardiographic guidance being an essential tool at all stages of this procedure.

Stereoscopic vision display technology in real-time three-dimensional echocardiography-guided intracardiac beating-heart surgery.

OBJECTIVE Stereoscopic vision display technology has been shown to be a useful tool in image-guided surgical interventions. However, the concept has not been applied to 3-dimensional echocardiography-guided cardiac procedures. We evaluated stereoscopic vision display as an aid for intracardiac navigation during 3-dimensional echocardiography-guided beating-heart surgery in a model of atrial sep...

[Learning process for transseptal puncture guided by intracardiac echocardiography].

We prospectively analyzed the learning process for transseptal catheterization guided by intracardiac echocardiography, in 50 patients who underwent radiofrequency ablation for left atrial arrhythmias. In 20 patients the intracardiac echocardiography catheter was positioned in the right atrium to visualize the fossa ovalis and the tenting of the fossa caused by the Brockenbrough needle. In the ...

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma diagnosed by intracardiac echocardiography-guided cardiac tumor biopsy.

A 44-year-old man presented with exertional dyspnea. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) revealed a large tumor protruding into the right atrium and extending into the left ventricle. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and contrast enhanced computed tomography also confirmed the intracardiac tumor detected by TTE. An endomyocardial biopsy was performed under the intracardiac echocardiography (...

Left Atrial Appendage Closure Under Intracardiac Echocardiographic Guidance: Feasibility and Comparison With Transesophageal Echocardiography

BACKGROUND Transcatheter left atrial appendage closure is an alternative therapy for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation patients. These procedures are currently guided with transesophageal echocardiography and fluoroscopy in most centers. As intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) is commonly used in other catheter-based procedures, we sought to determine the safety and effectiveness of intra...

Transesophageal echocardiography-guided thrombectomy of intracardiac renal cell carcinoma without cardiopulmonary bypass

Advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) resection has important anesthetic management implications, particularly when tumor extends, suprahepatic, into the right atrium. Use of transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) is essential in identifying tumor extension and guiding resection. Latest surgical approach avoids venovenous and cardiopulmonary bypass yet requires special precautions and interventions...

Cryoablation for Ventricular Tachycardia Originating from Anterior Papillary Muscle of Left Ventricle Guided by Intracardiac Echocardiography

Papillary muscles (PMs) were reported to be origin of ventricular arrhythmia (VA). Radiofrequency (RF) ablation was reported to be acutely effective in eliminating VA. However, the recurrence rate is high. Recently, cryoablation guided by intracardiac echocardiography, 3-dimensional mapping system, and image integration was introduced as alternative strategy for this challenging ablation. We pr...
